Indigenous Landscaping
Green Futures strives to promote the local awareness
of this unique region by encouraging the use of appropriate indigenous
plants in private and commercial landscaping projects throughout the south
western Cape region of South Africa. Throughout their year's training,
we provide our students with opportunities to develop practical landscaping
skills through ‘on the job’ training. All our projects use a
team of trainee gardeners under the leadership of an experienced Green
Futures fynbos expert. We are committed to conservation and the restoration
of indigenous flora and fauna to disturbed sites. We see our landscaping
projects as opportunities to train our students, develop ecologically
appropriate fynbos gardens and at the same time inform and encourage South
Africans to take pride and interest in their natural heritage.
 Our
speciality
Green futures specialises in indigenous water-wise
gardening for winter-rainfall regions (south western Cape Province of
South Africa). We develop water-wise gardens that are lush and colorful
throughout the year and use minimal water. We have access to hundreds
of beautiful low water-use plants that fulfill all gardening requirements.
We have extensive ecological expertise as to the natural distribution
and growth requirements of the Cape Flora. Green Futures gardens are not
just about the plants, but also the creation of a habitat that attracts
a variety of indigenous birds and animals back into the garden.
We will replace, free of charge, any plant that we have
suggested that dies for reasons other than lack of watering.
Our Nursery
We have developed a select range of indigenous trees, shrubs, bulbs and
groundcovers for water wise fynbos gardens. We provide information on
the best sites for each species, their preferred growth mediums and how
to care for them once planted. Our nursery has specialized in propagating
plants for coastal and windy lowland fynbos gardens.
Our plants went on sale in March 2004 in time
for the winter planting season.
